Livestock Wellness

At Nurtured Earth Apothecary, our livestock wellness services are designed to support your animals overall comfort, relaxation, and recovery through non-invasive wellness modalities.
These services are not veterinary medicine, not naturopathic medical care, and not a substitute for diagnosis, treatment, or ongoing care provided by a licensed veterinarian.
While I am pursuing advanced education in naturopathic medicine, my livestock wellness services are offered separately from any healthcare profession and are provided solely within the scope of animal wellness. I do not diagnose disease, prescribe medications, perform veterinary procedures, or recommend changes to veterinary treatment plans.
If your horse, cow, pig, sheep, goat (or any other four legged animal) is experiencing illness, lameness, injury, or any medical concern, a licensed veterinarian should be consulted before or in conjunction with wellness services.

MagnaWave® Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF)

PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) technology uses low-frequency electromagnetic pulses that interact with tissues throughout the body. MagnaWave® devices deliver these pulses through applicators placed over specific areas of the animal for a comfortable, non-invasive session.
Many livestock owners choose PEMF as part of their animals regular wellness routine to support:
- General relaxation
- Recovery following exercise or competition
- Healthy circulation
- Maintenance of normal muscle function
- Overall wellness and comfort
During a typical session, many horses/cows/pigs/sheep/goats/etc, visibly relax, lower their heads, lick and chew, yawn, or become sleepy. Every animal responds differently, and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.

Cold Laser Wellness Sessions

Our cold laser wellness sessions utilize the Erchonia® XLR8, a low-level laser that delivers specific wavelengths of red light to targeted areas of the body. Unlike surgical or high-powered therapeutic lasers, low-level lasers do not generate significant heat and are non-invasive. Most animals find treatments relaxing and comfortably stand throughout the session.
Cold laser, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), uses light energy that is absorbed by cells within the body. Research suggests this light may support normal cellular function and energy production, which is why photobiomodulation has become an area of growing interest in both human and veterinary wellness.
Wellness Benefits:
Cold laser sessions are offered to support your animals overall wellness and may be incorporated into a routine to promote:
- Relaxation
- Comfort
- Recovery following exercise or competition
- Healthy tissue function
- Overall musculoskeletal wellness
Every animal responds differently, and sessions are tailored to your partners individual wellness goals.

MagnaWave ROC Red Light Therapy

Support your four legged friends health, comfort, and recovery with MagnaWave ROC Red Light Therapy. This non-invasive therapy uses therapeutic red and near-infrared wavelengths of light that are absorbed by the body's cells to help support cellular energy (ATP) production, healthy circulation, and the body's natural healing processes. The result is a gentle therapy that can aid recovery after training, competition, injury, or the everyday demands of an active lifestyle.
Red light therapy is commonly used to support:
- Muscle soreness and stiffness
- Tendon and ligament recovery
- Joint comfort and mobility
- Wound and soft tissue healing
- Healthy circulation
- Performance recovery
- Overall wellness and maintenance

Which Therapy Is Right for Your Four-Legged Friend?
At Nutured Earth Apothecary, Livestock Wellness, we offer three complementary wellness modalities that support your animals natural healing and recovery processes. While each therapy promotes health at the cellular level, they work in different ways and are often most effective when used together.
Rather than asking which therapy is "best," the better question is: Which tool is best suited for your parters needs today?

MagnaWave PEMF (Semi 10)
- Uses Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields (PEMF)
- Treats the entire body or large regions
- Encourages healthy cellular function, circulation, and relaxation
- Excellent for whole-body wellness, recovery, mobility, and performance
- Sessions typically cover the entire animal
MagnaWave ROC Red Light
- Uses therapeutic red & near-infrared LED light
- Treats larger muscle groups and tissues
- Supports cellular energy production (ATP), circulation, and tissue recovery
- Ideal for muscle recovery, soft tissue support, skin health, and performance
- Covers broad treatment areas efficiently
XLR8 Cold Laser
- Uses concentrated therapeutic laser light
- Targets specific structures and small treatment areas
- Delivers a precise dose of light to targeted tissues for focused support
- Ideal for tendons, ligaments, joints, wounds, scars, trigger points, and localized concerns
- Highly focused treatment for specific locations
The Power of Combining Therapies
These therapies aren't competitors, they're complementary.
Many horses/cows/pigs/sheep/goats benefit from combining multiple modalities during the same visit.
For example:
- PEMF helps prepare the body by promoting relaxation and supporting healthy circulation.
- ROC Red Light supports larger muscle groups and enhances recovery by encouraging cellular energy production.
- XLR8 Cold Laser provides focused support to a specific tendon, ligament, joint, wound, or other localized area.
Using the therapies together allows each to do what it does best, creating a comprehensive approach to equine wellness.
Every animal is different, which is why each session is tailored to your animals individual needs, workload, age, and wellness goals. Whether your horse is a high-level performance athlete, a weekend trail companion, recovering from an injury, or simply aging gracefully, we'll determine the combination of therapies that best supports their health and comfort.

What does the Research Say?
Research into both PEMF and photobiomodulation has grown considerably over the past two decades. Studies have investigated their effects on cellular activity, circulation, tissue oxygenation, inflammation pathways, and recovery following exercise in both human and veterinary settings.
Some published research suggests these technologies may influence normal biological processes involved in recovery and tissue function. However, research findings are not uniform, and additional high-quality studies are needed to better understand their effectiveness for many applications.
For this reason, these services are offered as complementary wellness modalities rather than medical treatments, and no specific results can be promised.
What to expect:
- Discussion of your horse's wellness goals
- Observation of movement and general comfort
- A customized wellness session using MagnaWave® PEMF, cold laser, or both (when appropriate)
- Documentation of the session for continuity of care
- Recommendations that remain within the scope of animal wellness

FAQ

What is PEMF?
PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) is a non-invasive wellness modality that uses gentle electromagnetic pulses to support normal cellular function. Many horse owners incorporate PEMF into their horse's routine to promote relaxation, recovery after exercise, and overall wellness.
What is cold laser?
Cold laser, also known as photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of light to deliver light energy to targeted tissues. Unlike surgical lasers, cold lasers do not generate significant heat or damage tissue. Treatments are quiet, gentle, and non-invasive.
How long is a session?
Dependent on your horses wellness goals
PEMF: 30-60 Minutes
Cold Laser: 5-15 Minutes
How many sessions will my horse need?
Every horse is different. Some owners schedule sessions before or after competitions, while others choose routine maintenance visits as part of their horse's overall wellness program. We'll discuss your goals and recommend a schedule that fits your horse's needs.
Can these services be used alongside veterinary care?
Yes. Our wellness services are intended to complement routine veterinary care- not replace it. We encourage open communication between horse owners and their veterinarians whenever appropriate
Do I need a veterinary referral?
A veterinary referral is not required for general wellness sessions. However, if your horse has a known medical condition, recent injury, or is under veterinary treatment, we encourage you to discuss complementary wellness services with your veterinarian before scheduling.
